EES 250 BASIC SOCIAL INTELLIGENCE

Welcome – to the introductory video for basic social intelligence.  My name is Dr. Charlotte Tanara and I will be your primary instructor for your course. I also serve as the director for the Social Intelligence and Leadership Iinstitute. This is probably one of my most favorite courses that I have taught at both the graduate and undergraduate level . This course is a university wide option for completion for the general education requirement – Element 1.C Oral  Communication. Is also a required course for the certificate and the minor in social intelligence and leadership  offered in the College of Justice and Safety here at Eastern Kentucky University and it is offered both on campus, fully online, and a hybrid format. Now let’s talk a little about the course itself.

It is organized into weekly lessons - we will be covering concepts, research and theories, basic sciences related to social intelligence in weeks one and two.  Then in weeks three through seven, the focus will be on the applications, basics, and the add-on skills of social intelligence and leadership. In each week, there are video lectures, assigned readings, interactive discussion boards and video demonstrations of the skill sets.  We will be showing you the right way and also the wrong way to apply each of the skills and a written script is provided, too, for each video. Graded class requirements will include discussion board questions, multiple choice and video exams, a course paper, and a short personal video of yourself demonstrating the skills that you have learned in class. To help you, there will be examples for you to see on blackboard. When you login into blackboard, read your syllabus carefully so that you can keep up with your weekly assignments, your due dates and times are most important.    This is an interactive class – if you miss an assignment due date then you will not have credit for that particular assignment. In essence, there will be no credit. In blackboard, you will also see the announcement page.

Always check your announcement page. This is where I will post maybe some changes or additional clarifications about a particular assignment. Just a reminder. This is an online class. Your internet connection and your computer are going to be the most important.

If you do have questions, feel free to contact me by phone or by e-mail. Or you may post it in the virtual office. Some students post their questions there because they might be answered by another student.  Or, other students may have the exact same question that you do. My contact information is located in your syllabus and also in faculty information. I am available either by email or my contact information.

I am excited about our class and I am looking forward to our class together.

So, if you would, keep calm and carry on.
