[Slide 1] [Dr. Wolman] Hi, I’m Dr. Dariusz Wolman. This video tutorial was designed to help you create and conduct your risk management audit that’s due in week eleven. Also if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at any time.

[Slide 2] [Dr. Wolman] This video is comprised to help you complete the risk management audit that’s due in week eleven.

[Slide 3] [Dr. Wolman] The first thing you need to do is review the Enterprise Risk Management PowerPoint presentation that is in the risk management module of this course. Second, locate your agency’s policies and procedures or standard operating procedures manual.

[Slide 4] [Dr. Wolman] If you do not work for an agency or do not have access to one, please come see me or email me and I will provide you with a policies and procedures manual you can use.

[Slide 5] [Dr. Wolman] One of the easiest things to describe for a risk management audit is a fire control plan.

[Slide 6] [Dr. Wolman] The risk management for that is creating the plan. The hazard is fire, which can occur at any time. The audit of that is running a fire drill.

[Slide 7] [Dr. Wolman]However for each component of the plan you need to consider the severity, meaning what is the risk to the organization, to the employees, and to the patient if the hazard is not controlled. Score that from a low of one to a high of five. Frequency. How frequent will the hazard occur if it is not controlled? Again, score from one being low (never or rarely) to five meaning imminent. The nature, again who is at risk? The organization, the patient, or you as a staff member? If correction action is needed, you need to determine who is responsible for that corrective action. So when you have your severity, your frequency, and your nature that comes out to a score. With that score the higher the number, the more severe the hazard is and the more often you should audit that policy.

[Slide 8] [Dr. Wolman] If corrective action is needed, make sure that the action is carried out, who is responsible, and the corrective score afterwards and any remarks you may have.

[Slide 9] [Dr. Wolman] At the end of that you will need to compile a written report in addition to the template as to what you did and how you did it. For example, you went to this county ambulance service, this is the policy and the policy number that you reviewed, these are the components. Much like what’s in the outline. And again if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at any time.
